In the second most populous nation in the world, there are four to six million outcasts. These people are called hijra, which literally translates to eunuch – more commonly known, in the western world, as transgender. They are forced to the fringes of society, rejected and denied even the most basic human rights.
At OASIS International Eunuch Welfare, Inc, we feel it is our responsibility to embrace the hijra of India and show them the love and compassion they deserve. A Christian organization, we look to Isaiah 56:4-5 as our call to action: “To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose what pleases me and hold fast my covenants. Even to them I will give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off.”
