OASIS International reaches out to eunuchs in India

Johnson D. Choppala, Ph.D., was a volunteer teacher at Spicer Memorial College in Pune, India, when a morning devotional placed an arresting call on his life.
The devotional verse that morning was Isaiah 56:4, 5, which says, "To the eunuchs who keep my Sabbaths, and choose what pleases me and hold fast my covenants. Even to them I will give in my house and within my walls a place and a name better than that of sons and daughters; I will give them an everlasting name that shall not be cut off."
There are 4 to 6 million Eunuchs, or "Hijras," in India. Most are concentrated in major cities where many beg or prostitute themselves to make a living. Every average-sized town or city in India has a eunuch population.
That morning, Dr. Choppala sensed a calling to take the gospel to the eunuchs of India. According to Dr. Choppala, the number of eunuchs in India is approximately equal to the population of the state of Mississippi. They are marginalized and treated as the "scum" of society.
Today Dr. Choppala is president of OASIS International, which reaches out to eunuchs in India with the message of God's love. OASIS International is the only organization to specifically reach out to this group and seek to transform their lives with the message of the gospel and with alternate ways of making an honest living.
